We get asked this all the time, but the simple answer is, there is no specific time scale of how long a wig will last! Everyone will wear their wigs in different ways, some every day, others only a couple of times a week. Some customers have a new wig every 2 months, others will only have one a year. No doubt others make them last even longer than that but we find the average time for most customers is around 3 months. Regular wig wearers usually have one every 2 - 3 months.
There are a few things you can do to make wigs last longer. The less you wash the wig the better. You only need to wash it about every 14 - 20 days (or if you feel it needs washing). If you only wear your wig twice a week, it will obviously need washing far less. Washing too much will take the goodness out of the wig and it will soon start to look a bit frazzled!
A lot of customers ask why wigs go frizzy at the nape. This is due to the friction against your skin and clothes. This is the main reason people change their wig. It doesn't happen with human hair so you may find they will last longer for you. There are sprays to help calm the frizzing, but this will still not make the wigs last much longer.
Look after your wig. Spray it with leave in conditioner, do not wash too frequently and you will find it looks better longer!
Most customers would have two wigs at any one time. Some wash and wear them, others keep one for best. Interchanging the wigs can extend the life of them as they are not getting worn as often. In any event having a spare is a good idea. You could damage your existing wig and not have another to wear. It is also a good idea to keep an old one for days when you are out dog walking or need to pull a hat on over your wig. Again, this will help prolong the liofe of your newer wig.
On saying all of this, it is a very personal thing. It's like shoes. One person could make a pair of shoes last for years whereas another could have worn them out within a month! It's the same with wigs.
